The Groups Are Put In Their ‘Get Along’ Shirt
Episode 3 of Fear the Walking Dead deals more with the present day than it has so far in Season 4. We find Morgan’s group and Alicia’s group trying to get along merely because Al (Maggie Grace) has promised to show them where they found the Vulture flag. She will only do this so she can record their stories.
Already, I am over Al and her stories. It kinda feels out of place considering everyone is just trying to survive somehow and here’s Al, recording the horrors of the apocalypse for future generations. Alicia’s group doesn’t think very highly of Al’s harping. Still, they want to know where the Vultures are. For. Reasons. So they roll their eyes at Al and keep on going.
But then a scuffle breaks out in the SWAT vehicle and the shoe is suddenly on the other foot and Alicia’s group are now the ones wearing the ziplocks.
Of course, it also means the SWAT vehicle is stuck in a ditch and the group have to break up in order to find another truck to pull it out because Al just won’t leave it behind. For. Reasons.
So, Nick (Frank Dillane) and Morgan (Lennie James) stay behind and the others go looking for the trucks Luciana (Danay Garcia) saw earlier on. Morgan immediately stars working on Nick like a post apocalyptic version of the Mormons with his book that Eastman gave him all that time ago. Nick is not really okay with the preaching but he has his own flashbacks to deal with.
Look at the Flashbacks, Nick
And these flashbacks involve flowers.
Now, if you watch The Walking Dead, you know flowers are a bad thing and I just kept expecting Carol to turn up and shoot someone in the back and tell Morgan to get the fuck back to Virginia.
Except that never happened. What happened was worse. Way worse.
So, Nick keeps remembering back the time he and his mum, Madison (Kim Dickens) were driving around looking for supplies. The Vultures are on the scene so it isn’t long after when they turned up at the Diamond in Episode 2 of Fear the Walking Dead.
Madison is all sunshine and happy thoughts and telling Nick that there are always nice things to be found outside the walls. They go to a church, but the Vultures are already there like some Texan version of the Saviors who know exactly where the fuck you’re heading to even before you do. One of them is taking all the supplies and Turncoat Charlie (Alexa Nisenson) is there just to piss off Nick, it seems.
Madison then finds a field of flowers and while Nick lies down in them, she wanders off.
To where, we have no idea because AMC are not sharing that shit just yet. No, they want to make us suffer. Probably because Scott Gimple is now running this ship and we all know how he likes to fuck shit up over on The Walking Dead, don’t we?
That Thing That Happened At The End
So, the group gets split up and brought back together a lot in this episode but it’s mainly just so they can mingle and meet each other individually.
Nick and Morgan spend a lot of time together, especially once Nick sees one of the Vulture’s cars and goes off in pursuit. Morgan is all over the shop here, turning up, trying to convert Nick, saving his life, leaving again. But, this episode is Nick’s journey and we all want to know what happened to Madison when she walked off from the field of flowers because now Nick has found more of those flowers and they are the only vivid colour in the current day scenes.
When he’s not looking at the flowers, Nick is chasing down the Vulture so he can kill him. It’s plain and simple. And I am wondering if Madison is dead now and that’s why Nick wants to kill them so bad.
And, luck would have it too, that Nick and Morgan come across the Vulture in a town they are wandering through. Morgan tries to get Nick to stop but, in the end, Morgan can see Nick has to do what he has to do. So, he lets him go. Nick kills the guy and is in the middle of another flashback to that field of flowers when Charlie turns up and shoots Nick in the chest.
And then Nick dies.
He fucking dies.
And. I. Am. Not. Okay. With. That.
I hate you Scott Gimple. I fucking hate you.
