A serial killer, nicknamed ‘La Mante’ decides to collaborate with the police when a string of murders that copycat her style suddenly appear.
(One seaosn/6 episodes, French language)
Genre: Crime, mystery
Stars: Carole Bouquet, Fred Testot, Manon Azem
Once again, I can’t track down an English subtitled trailer for La Mante, so you will have to check out its official Netflix page for one.
First off the bat, let me say that this series is visually stunning as well as gripping. Secondly, Carole Bouquet in the title role of ‘La Mante’ (The Mantis), is worth watching alone. She is chilling as a female serial killer who joins forces with her son (who can’t stand her) to solve a new spate of copycat murders.
However, there is a very annoying stereotypical typecasting that happens in the series that throws me a bit. But, even with this, by the end of the series, I was bawling my eyes out, so it is still worth the effort.
And, if you like your series to be longer than one season, according to Cinemaholic, La Mante has been renewed for Season 2.(4 / 5)
As Rachel points out, Carole Bouquet sells this series with her performance alone. She’s what Hannibal Lector would be if he wasn’t spending time trying to be creepy. And there’s one scene where I’m saying aloud, “This woman is fucking gone.” She is just that good and I can’t wait to see what she’s going to do in Season 2.
There are plenty of twists and turns right up to near the end–and then the show takes a hard left onto Bullshit Stereotype Lane. Still, if you can ignore that shit you’ll love the series, and I do give it 4 stars due to the power of Carole Bouquet’s performance.
