Welcome to the Ghost Nation’s backstory! Here’s what happened in Episode 8 (titled “Kiksuya”) of HBO’s Westworld Season 2.

Akecheta and Kohana

Episode 8 of HBO’s Westworld Season 2 delves into a love story between the hosts, Akecheta (Zahn McClarnon) and Kohana (Julia Jones) as Akecheta tells Maeve’s (Thandie Newton) daughter all about why she doesn’t have to be scared of them.

Akecheta and Kohana’s story opens with their eternal love and ends with Akecheta going on The Maze journey. In the process, Kohana gets taken away and poor Akecheta spends the good part of a decade not dying and trying to find her, all the while dancing between the newly tweaked up programming that sees him as the fearsome Ghost Nation leader now.

So, the whole time we have been terrified of the ferocity of the Ghost Nation turns out we shouldn’t have been because Akecheta was really just trying to get the other hosts to go looking for the door with him.

Which is Season 2 code for “The Maze.” Except, in this season of Westworld, Akecheta, who is starting to get woke, bumps into a naked Logan (Ben Barnes) from that time when William (Jimmi Simpson) got pissed at him for reminding him he was in love with a host and not a human. Logan, who is all sorts of exposed and delusional tells Akecheta that there is a door and that they are in the wrong world. Now, for humans, who know that Westworld is a theme park, this is legit information. For Akecheta, though, it is like a riddle sent from the gods.

So, he spends a long time trying to find that door.

And, he does at one point. Somehow, after wandering out beyond where he is programmed to – and with no one else noticing behind the scenes – Akecheta comes across the mechanics of Westworld.

He then manages to locate Kohana and they search one more for this elusive door. Eventually, someone behind the scenes realises Kohana has wandered off. Tracking her down, Akecheta turns up just in time to see her carted off in a buggy.

And still, he searches.

This time, though, he realises that he might need to look beyond death for her and finally allows himself to be killed.

When he is taken in for repairs, they finally work out that Akecheta is due for updates. Like ten years’ worth of updates. So, with a time span of 4 hours, Akecheta is left alone to his own devices. Once again – without anyone noticing a host just wandering around inside Westworld – he manages to locate the bowels of the building where they store all the hosts no longer in use or so fucktarded that they can’t repair them.

He finds Kohana there and realises that its time to start a revolution. It is time to get all of the hosts on The Maze journey so that they can all look for the Door together.

After a while, Akecheta finally bumps into Dr. Ford (Anthony Hopkins) and he offers up a new riddle about how Akecheta will finally understand everything once the Deathbringer comes for Ford.

Of course, this totally means Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) and how she killed Dr. Ford and then started the uprising in the Season 1 finale of Westworld.

Maeve and Lee Sizemore Continue To Have A Moment

While all this is going on, Lee Sizemore (Simon Quarterman) has convinced a guy that Maeve (Thandie Newton) is worth saving on account of the fact that she is the one controlling all of the hosts. Therefore, it might be handy to piggyback off her so they can regain control over the wayward hosts now running amok in Season 2 of Westworld.

During this, they discover that even while Maeve is riddled with bullet holes, she is still controlling the hosts.

This is when viewers discover that Akecheta is telling Maeve directly via her daughter that everything will be okay. That if she survives, she should seek out the Ghost Nation. And, if she perishes, that’s okay too.

The Man in Black’s Really Shitty Day Gets Even Shittier

Speaking of characters riddled with bullet holes, the Man in Black 9Ed Harris) is clawing his way across the Westworld landscape in an effort not to die.

Who should he come upon, but Akecheta.

Akecheta doesn’t really want to save the MiB’s life, yet, he doesn’t want to give him the release of death either. Think about that. The MiB is such a shitty person that Akecheta thinks death is too honourable for him.

However, the MiB’s daughter, Grace (Katja Herbers) turns up and solves their dilemma. Apparently she intends to really make him suffer and Akecheta is okay with that.

TL;DR: The Ghost Nation are good, Maeve is still in a pretty bad place and the MiB gets carted off by his daughter because she has worse things she can do with him than anything the Ghost Nation can come up with.
