#SDCC17: ‘Westworld’ Season 2 Will Not Premiere Until 2018, But, Wait, Here’s the Trailer

Okay, so Westworld blew onto our screens late last year and preemptively filled the hole we know is going to form once Game of Thrones retires from HBO. The show is extravagant, beautiful, violent, and entirely fucked up in regard to human interaction with robots.

HBO announced early on that Season 2 of Westworld was coming — but not until 2018 according to Entertainment Weekly.

Considering already there is already a plethora of theories in regard to Season 1 AND Season 2, fans were resigned to the fact this would have to be enough until new episodes of the show were ready.

But, then San Diego Comic-Con happened and HBO went and released a trailer for Season 2 of Westworld, and I’m not okay with that.

If HBO have footage for Season 2, and footage that is good enough to put in a trailer, why the hell are we waiting until 2018?

Okay, maybe they have only filmed Episode 1 of Season 2, and that’s why we got a sneak peek. But, I don’t think so. After all, how long are they planning to take to film eleven episodes if Season 2 is not coming out until next year?

Another theory is that HBO have just filmed a few snippets of Season 2 in order to release a trailer during San Diego Comic-Con. This is plausible, after all, SDCC is the place where you want ot be releasing this stuff. Although, is the reason it is released now because the show will premiere before SDCC next year? If so, that means we might be able to more accurately pinpoint a Season 2 premiere date than merely “2018.” Here’s hoping that Westworld will, in fact, air in the first half of 2018, then.

Of course, HBO may not be able to squeeze Season 2 of Westworld into their schedule until 2018, and I’d be okay with that.

But, what if HBO are just being arseholes? What if HBO just released this because they want to remind fans that there is still a really long wait until the new season premieres?

Regardless of the reasoning, here’s the Season 2 trailer for Westworld.

To add further speculation to the Westworld theories, i09 revealed Season 2 of Westworld would not take place immediately after the events that unfolded in the Season 1 finale. While this means we already know there is a time jump, there is no clue as to how big this jump will be. Thanks HBO.
